As a Special Education teacher for the past 18 years, I have learned that students learn more when they do something than when simply seeing or hearing. The items that I am requesting will be used to build words of all types according to the student’s IEP. Once students can sound out one syllable words, they will then begin learning word roots and their meanings. They will use the letters and magnetic boards to build multi-syllabic words and breakdown their meanings by word parts. I believe in teaching Students with Learning disabilities to build and decompose words, which will help close that learning gap, while surpassing the goals set in their IEPs. Keeping the students focused through actively manipulating the letters in Word Building, then transferrring the information into their interactive notebooks will help them to retain more.
