Our Morning Show provides more than just a way to make school announcements. Here at HGE, we use our show as a mechanism to help students grow academically and make them feel engaged in school. Each year students audition to become members of the morning show. They try out for anchors, sound and camera technicians, video producers, and directors. Through the morning show, students learn how to organize their thoughts, speak in front of the camera, and follow verbal and non-verbal directions for the show as well as how to create and edit PowerPoints and video clips. In turn, students in the classroom pay more attention to the Panther News as they learn new facts and listen to their peers telling them about school events and activities. As the school ages, TVs in the classroom are starting to fail but the pressure to fix those is not as great since many teachers now use their laptop/projector combo to deliver information within the classroom. Rather than replace the out dating, old worn-out televisions or eliminate the Morning Show, we have looked into streaming our show, allowing the continuation of our Morning Show at a more reasonable delivery price. It would also allow those students and teachers who do not have a TV in their room, or even our eLearners at home, to have access to the Morning Show from their laptop/projector combo. With our streaming channel, Teachers can observe how students respond to using newer technology to absorb information. In addition, additional students could learn the role of “roving reporters” by utilizing the streaming technology to do “on-the-spot” interviews and capture more candid daily routines throughout the school. Live streaming, therefore, provides a method for students and teachers to feel more connected to the larger school community.
