This setup will give my students what they need to learn the wonderful art of etching in the classroom. This is an intermediate art lesson, following up linocut in the intro class. These students are ready to take the next step in their printmaking journeys and tackle a more difficult form of this beautiful art discipline. This traditional technique is not only rad but also informed by history, giving my students some cross-curricular learning and art-making awesomeness. Included is a request for etching plates, printmaking paper, and ink. Students create a drawing, then scratch (etch) into the acrylic. Those scratches hold in that can then be transferred to printmaking paper. As a class, we can better understand the master's art-making processes and see how contemporary artists have transformed this art for a modern voice.
