I call my students Packer's People. I think it is important, as an educator and as a human being, to remember that we are in charge of developing the lives of this nation's future (and current) citizens. They are miniaturized versions of ourselves and model who they will become after us. An important part of assisting in their growth is allowing them to become themselves. One way I ensure this, is to allow my students to discover themselves in my classroom. One of the most integral ways students learn is through play, which is why Lego's are a big part of my request. Lego's can intersect imagination and reality, allowing children to act out lives and the things they learn daily. In turn, their play solidifies their life lessons. I have also requested soft seating, science supplies and primary notebooks to make them more comfortable in the classroom and allow them to express their creativity more openly. I am also requesting other supplies for the classroom such as a science bundle filled with tools to help my students observe and investigate their surroundings, primary journals and large beginners pencils to record the information they learn about, and a year's worth of Times for Kids so they can read about the world around them. I will be using the magnetic boards to accommodate my growing classroom (because my current set does not contain enough). The wiggly eyes are for upcoming art projects for the fall and the soft seats will allow them to find a "book nook" for their reading during Daily 5.
