I will be teaching 4th-grade math and science next year. In today's society and even at home, kids their age have limited choices. But in my classroom and on our STEAM campus we are changing this by providing the students with more engaging choices, starting with flexible seating. We all know as adults that we have that favorite chair we love to relax in and read a good book or drink a fresh, hot cup of coffee. This is the same comfort and choice I want to provide my students within the classroom. Doing so will give them a voice in how they will better receive and retain the crucial, in-depth and rigorous content I will be delivering to them. At K. E. over 90% of our multi-cultural and academically diverse students are identified as low socioeconomic. In my classroom, I will be able to motivate my students to see and reach beyond their circumstances. I want my students to feel that they are at home when they're away from home, and I know this is a great way to start.
