At the end of the semester, we want to bring all of our knowledge together by using rat specimens to perform a dissection. Anatomy of a rat is similar to that of a human. We want to explore the textbook information we learned about human anatomy and physiology and apply this knowledge by dissecting a rat. Tactile learning brings education to a new level of understanding. We will identify each organ system and dissect the organs for a visual of the inner structures. These supplies will be paramount in facilitating this project, due to the inability of many families to afford a minimal supply fee. Supplies needed will be the rat specimens. Each specimen will have two students assigned. The kits I have located include the specimen, the tools to dissect the specimen, and personal protective equipment. We will also need extra gloves since more than one student is assigned to each specimen. Furthermore, trays to place the specimen on are needed to prevent specimens from being placed directly onto student desks. Placement pins will be used to hold down and move tissue in order to visualize the structures.
