These students have spent SEVEN months without any art this school year. They were desperate to get their hands on at least a crayon, and now that they have gotten into their passions again, they want to paint the school! Our school is dressed in the same 1940's peach walls, which does NOT represent the character and boldness of our students. With a wide array of different learners, I would like this same diversity reflected throughout the school. My lessons are always inspired by an artist, book, or art theme that challenges their perspectives of the world around them. In regards to murals, we may look at some of the work of Diego Rivera, Keith Haring, or may even take a look at some examples from the nearby Wynwood Walls! Keeping the integrity of their own artistic style, students will collaborate in groups and create a composition that embodies elements of their diverse community, school, and academic interests. We have all the brushes, buckets, and palettes for this project, all we need is enough paint to evenly paint a wall about 10 feet in length and 7 feet in height. Using the final composition, I will outline a draft on the designated area in black paint. Students will then paint the mural as they wish, adding patterns and fun designs. I will outline once again, and then seal the mural.
