Our scholars come from low income communities throughout greater New Orleans, they have significant to mild exceptionalities and they have completed their Senior year of high school. Unfortunately, while their general education peers applied to colleges around the country, our scholars had no option to continue their education in New Orleans as most institutions do not have programming or supports to meet our scholars' needs. Our school believes all scholars deserve access to college and so, that's what we created with Opportunities Academy. Opportunities Academy is a college option for our scholars who do not have access to college pathways. In OA, scholars identify individualized goals for themselves and the steps they will take in order to reach them. Their goals include goals for independent living, fitness, daily living skills, career pursuits and goals for their personal life and positive relationship networks.
