I am honored to work in the first Leader in Me school in Wisconsin where we encourage each student to develop personal leadership by using the 7 Habits. From 4K - 5th grade, our students and staff are AMAZING! My primary role as a Special Education Teacher is to support students with learning needs. This allows me to work with all students and teachers to develop an inclusive community. The statistics tell so little about our students' spirit and determination. While it is true that we are Title I school with many students living at or below the poverty level, more than 30% of our students are English Language Learners and 14% identified with special needs; more importantly, my students are reading buddies, club creators and school gardeners. They are leaders in safety patrol, drumming and mariachi groups, athletic and technology teams and, yes, even academics. My students rock!!!
