Our kids have a range of disabilities from Autism to Downs Syndrome. Having disabilities doesn't stop them from having fun and enjoying school. In elementary school they were surrounded by peers in the general education classroom. They benefited socially and academically by being surrounded by peers their own age and grade. Their peers were helpful and inclusive in classroom activities without reservation. They aided with projects, class assignments, and physical activities. With peer help, our kids were successful. The peers also celebrated the accomplishment of our kids special needs . In the past since our school district only has two middle school, our special needs program was housed at the middle school outside the area where most of our kid's peers would be going. Parents, district staff worked to have a special needs program at both sites. Our kids are able to follow their peers into Middle School. We believe they will have a successful experience together with their friends.
