Many students on the spectrum experience trouble processing sensory information. These differences can cause a major impact on their behavior. In other words, we could use all the tools we can get! Sensory tools enable my students to take charge of their own emotions. Hands will be free to complete tasks when their ears can be covered with noise canceling headphones. The noise canceling headphones can even be used for school routines such as lunch, ancillary, and fire drills where loud noises can be overwhelming. Musical instruments, sensory chews, and stress balls can be utilized in our calm down area for when the classroom environment becomes too much.
