My school is a Title I, 6th-12th grade public school. My students all have intellectual disabilities or multiple disabilities, and are in a self-contained classroom for almost the whole day. The students I teach face a range of challenges that threaten to keep them from achieving their goals for the future, including limited communication skills, slow processing, and low reading and math levels, as well as compounding factors such as foster care situations. They are friendly, well-behaved students who genuinely want to learn and improve their abilities. They bring a smile to my face every day and I feel fortunate to work with them.
