Hello! Thank you for being here! I am a 30-year teacher, working as Math Coach and Interventionist for my elementary school. I have always loved teaching, and in most recent years became a huge advocate of repairing math education as we have known it. Many children (and adults!) do not have enough understanding of our number system to do "mental math." As William Paul Thurston says, "Mathematics is not about numbers, equations, computations, or algorithms: it is about UNDERSTANDING."
