Our school is a multicultural school that services students from all backgrounds. About 90% of the school's students receive free breakfast and free lunch, which means that we are a High Risk/High Needs school. Most grade levels have a co-integrated class which means students with disabilities are mixed with those that are considered to be "mainstream" students. We also have a high ELL (English language learning) population as most of our students are immigrants or first-generation Americans. My students are bright, energetic and passionate about their education. Most understand that education is the best way to get a "leg-up" in this world, but many struggle when connecting to the distant past of the United States. Also, many struggle with literacy and have low comprehension and decoding skills due to learning disabilities or language barriers.
