If you have ever been in a classroom, no matter the age of the students, you will see several of them doing balancing acts on their chairs and sometimes even on their desks. Most of the time, I keep them from doing this due to safety reasons; however, there are certain students who work so much better if they are sitting differently in their seat. They can stay more focused, work for long periods of time without asking to get up, and stay quiet for longer. Studies have shown that if students have options for seating, they will choose the floor or a beanbag style seat. If my students had the beanbag seats I am requesting for a place to sit during silent reading time, this would help them focus and have more quality reading time. Groups would rotate in and out of the seats so that everyone gets the option of sitting in them.
