I want to have a Sensory Tool Kit available for all students to access when needed. Sensory tools help children become available and ready to learn. The tools promote engagement, participation, and focus. All kids big and small can benefit from a sensory tool (or 2...or 3). With the limited sensory tools available to me currently, I have seen them make a big difference in student's learning. But, I am not able to reach everyone's needs. The Sensory Tool Kit will promote self-regulation, relaxation, and a focused mind for everyone. Not all students have the same sensory needs, so a variety of options is needed to reach everyone. I have chosen visual sensory tools like the ooze timers, tactile sensory tools like the spiky DNA balls, kinesthetic tools like the resistance chair bands, and calming sensory tools like the weighted stuffed lizard to sit with and feel relaxed. When it is feeling difficult to focus, the students could grab a sensory tool of their choice to help them engage in their learning. Maybe the child just needs to fidget with something, squeeze something, or just simply have some weight in their lap to focus on their learning. What their body and mind need, they can get! Thank you for your consideration!
