Since I started teaching six years ago, I've taught Kindergarten, First Grade, preschool and for the second year I will be back in first grade. 98% of the students at my school are from high risk, low income families, where the average income is $20,741. Not only is the school considered a low income school, but six years ago they had not met federal standards for math and reading and had to be redesigned. Over the last five years we've gone from academic emergency to excellent and due to new report cards here in Ohio we are now rated a C. I want my students to know that locality has no bearing on the kind of education they receive. However, we are not given enough money to supply our students with everything and I find myself paying out of pocket for a lot of things. Thank goodness for Donor’s Choose.
