My 5th grade math and science classroom welcomes 2 groups of 28 students each. I'd like for those 56 individuals to feel like their classroom is their home away from home during the school year. I try to decorate it in a way that they feel more inviting than a traditional classroom. Academically, we use arts integration strategies as a tool for the students to get more involved in the lessons. I've found that these strategies help the students get out of their seats and moving. This engagement is truly organic and leads to the students retaining more information.
