One of my goals as an English teacher is to provide students the opportunity to find their voice through reading and writing. Angie Thomas' novel The Hate U Give is a perfect tool to help them achieve this goal. As a novel study for my classes, we will analyze the plot, characters, theme, and societal impact of this book. In addition, students will have class discussions and complete various writing assignments. The ability to understand someone else's perspective is perhaps the most effective way to discover your own voice. Better fluency, stronger syntax, and greater attention to details are just a few ways students will benefit from reading and then writing about this book. I cannot wait to witness their transformation after reading this novel!!
