We have requested a variety of items for manipulative play that our students can use to explore their creativity and cooperative learning skills. By creating these STEM bins, our students will have the opportunity to choose what they want to play with, express their creativity, and learn important social skills that sometimes cannot be taught with a paper and pencil lesson. From Magnatiles, to PlusPlus tiles, our students will be able to think outside the box and explore how to work as a team with each other while learning and having fun.
The American Academy of Pediatrics states that "play is fundamentally important for learning 21st century skills, such as problem solving, collaboration, and creativity, which require the executive functioning skills that are critical for adult success."
We would love to give our students the opportunity to learn through play but do not have the materials needed to fully allow them to be creative. We know that this project will excite our students. The power of choice motivates our students and these new materials will spark the creativity inside of them!
