They help their parents sell old clothes and gum in Tj to provide food for their families. When they do have a parent present the children are taking care of them. They are innocent and resilient; moldable into motivated, engaged, and forgiving individuals. My school is a high poverty area with 100% free and reduced lunch. We live in an area were graffiti grows rampant as do drugs and gang activity. Many of my parents do no drive a car nor speak English. Extended family members include a grandmother who cannot write and is stressed by a multiple choice survey as she collects cans from a trashcans to feed her grandchildren. She should be taken care of and not have to take care of her anyone. I am too often the only structure, pattern, routine and inspiration and motivation in the life of a child w
