Discovering answers independently allows students to take part in and control of their own education. I currently have 3 computers in my classroom and they are almost always in use. My learners are actively taking literacy comprehension tests, completing math challenges, coding, and discovering answers to their latest inquisitive thoughts. There is often a ‘waiting list’ to use a computer in my room, we have occasional access to other computers, but the time never seems long enough. As good as my students are with taking turns, it can be frustrating when a question is lingering and there are 2 people ahead in line with their own important use of technology. The amount of time it takes for my students to log in, and get to what they need is very time-consuming. Having 5 tablets for my students to share would allow more one on one time with technology that my kids could benefit so much from! Less student frustration would create an overall more positive classroom environment! Less waiting would allow us to move from task to task more efficiently as a class! Having the additional technology will help build fluency and confidence in my students' learning experience, allowing them to be more self-sufficient individuals.
