The students in my classroom are diverse both economically and ethnically. My school is an urban public middle school that has been called a "mini United Nations" and is truly a unique place to teach. Many students live in economically challenged homes where enrichment activities are not a common practice. Students often live with extended family members and are often being raised by family members other than their parents. Most of my students come to school happy, eager to learn and proud of their families. Over half of my students speak a language other than English and live in homes where English is not the primary language spoken. Some of my students are responsible for teaching other family members in English. My students and their families are faced with many challenges but value education and love to learn.
