My kids are a special group of 4 and 5 year old students who make up my Transitional Kindergarten class at my school. Their Kindergarten year is being extended into a two year program. The first year is a year where they can be slowly introduced to the academic world they will be spending the next 12 or more years in. It is a year where learning is done through play and experiences. A time when their large and fine motor skills can be allowed to develop before they enter what has become the highly academic world of Kindergarten. My school consists of mostly Hispanic students who's first language is Spanish. 70% of the students get either free or reduced breakfast and/or lunch. While their families try their best to support and help the educational program of the school it is often times hard due to language differences , finances and limited experiences.
