My students are at a severe disadvantage when it comes to education. They are lacking the basic materials that children need for school, so they are unable to focus on the learning portion and thus have a significant chance of not being successful. We are a renaissance school, which means 90% of our students receive free or reduced lunch with the majority of our students living in poverty. Many students come from single hard working parent homes, which are just unable to afford the necessities a child needs for school. Often times the student finds the need for materials and the lack thereof overwhelming and their focus turns from the actual learning to the survival of the learning. These items would allow the students to move their focus to the objective from the materials.
