I chose this focus for Spring Enrichment for several reasons: * My students have shared with me that our daily Mindfulness practices through focused attention and meditation have helped them clear their minds, focus, and feel calmer at both school and home. They've learned that they can "tap into the breath" and their attention wherever they are and literally calm the nervous system, along with receiving the benefit of feeling lighter, happier, and better able to cope with whatever comes their way. * With this class, I can reach more students and give them the gift of exploring Mindfulness and yoga and learning how to set up a regular practice at home. * The practice of these two disciplines dramatically changed my life many years ago. The opportunity for elementary school students to practice Mindfulness and yoga with me for 1.5 hours weekly just might change their lives too! * Class will include reflective writing in journals.
