These Chromebooks are to ultimately improve the educational experience of my students. While my school has several computer labs, they are understandably shared amongst the whole school and concurrent enrollment classes get priority, so sometimes not all my classes are able to be signed up for the lab. Because of that, sometimes some of my classes get the opportunity to practice research skills in class and some don't, or get a chance to do a project, etc. As important as it is for kids to read and write, it is even more impactful when they are doing the research themselves in something they have an interest in. The class set of 16 Chromebooks is for my students to work in pairs to read and analyze various sources for in-class research, where they will develop the ability to differentiate between credible and non-credible sources, forms of writing, primary and secondary sources, etc, as well as how to cite those sources. Furthermore, with the class set of Chromebooks, I will be able to also consistently use online class platforms as a matter of course in class, thus preparing them for a future possibility of schools closing again for a prolonged period due to any worldwide, national, or local issues. Having had the advantage of consistent use, the move to online learning will therefore not affect them as much as millions of students were affected this past spring semester. Please help me reach this goal so I can, in turn, help my future students.
