Let's replace the cardboard box our projector sits on with an actual display cart, my paper attempts at math manipulatives with actual math tools, and the piles of student work I sort through daily with binders students can manage themselves! Students with special needs and low working memory need to see, hear, and feel the work as they do each day. Right now, I spend countless hours outside of school struggling to create resources my school cannot provide, spend my own income on basics such as pencils and colorful paper to make each day run smoothly, and scour my childhood basement and those of friends and families for the art supplies, incentives, and old school supplies to supplement our classroom. I will no doubt continue to work this hard for my students, but with some of these resources now at our fingertips, I can refocus my energy on excellent curriculum instruction, increasing my own skills, and providing a deeper level of academic and socio-emotional support to my beloved students and school community.
