As a fifth grade teacher in a low-income area I work with a diverse population of students with varying backgrounds and specific educational needs. My classroom is best defined as a blend of excelling students, English Language Learners (ELL) that struggle with basic reading and math skills, and others that have other specific needs that require a great deal of assistance to master basic tasks. Regardless of their particular needs the students themselves are scrappy and are building a strong bond as a classroom community: Believing in themselves as much as I do. It is an amazing group of children that I feel blessed to be part of their educational experience.
