I am a board certified music therapist, and I work with all ages of public school students in the special education department. My youngest students are in PPCD (preschool, age 3) and my oldest students are in the 18+ program. My students vary in diagnoses and skill levels. Primarily my caseload consists of elementary through high school students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Intellectual Disabilities, and Speech Impairments - though, this does not give you a good picture of my kiddos! Music therapy can address non-musical goals in a variety of skill areas including: social skills, cognitive skills (academics), communication skills, motor skills, and emotional skills. Our sessions are always full of live (and occasionally recorded) music, various instruments to provide sensory input, visual aides/supports, and overall joy and laughter!
