This donation of headphones will be greatly appreciated. We are in desperate need of durable headphones in our Credit Recovery program. These students are working hard to complete credits they failed in the past to ensure they graduate with their peers. We spent the fall using what free donated headphones I could get my hands on. Most of the students battle socioeconomic pressure and inescapable anxiety. This group of students has so many life hurdles that any time I can ease the burden it makes my heart whole. Providing the most current, durable hardware for them to use reminds them that they are important to our school. These kids are often the forgot wones, expected to fail. I maintain a computer cart of laptops just for them. But when I ask them to use their listening skills to take notes during online lectures, many have no headphones and have to rely on the subtitles. This is extremely distracting for 21st learners. Many of the students struggle with concentration, especially late in the school day when our class meets. Headphones seem like a small addition to a classroom, but in online learning, they are a requirement for student success. These headphones will enable me to hold students accountable to take notes and organize their learning before completing their assessments. This is a skill that will transfer to their post-secondary career and education choices. Most will enter the workplace and need to use online platforms for training and education.
