I have almost 500 students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade. They try hard everyday to learn and master the content they are learning in all areas from math to reading to computers. I have the unique opportunity to work with all of our students and have observed that overall many of them struggle with problem solving, applying what they know to more complex situations and applying skills to solve real life problems. In a nutshell, they need more practice using higher order thinking skills and being presented with hands-on problem solving opportunities. Many of my students will never experience these opportunities unless we provide them at school. They desperately need to learn lessons in trial and error, perseverance and teamwork.
