Having alternate seating choices available for students is necessary! I have many students who would benefit from the choice, sensory input, and comfort of selecting alternate seating. I have seen wobble stools, yoga balls, mats, cushions, and flex bands in use in many schools and classrooms, and have seen first hand the good they can do, especially for students who struggle with body control and focus. According to a study done at the University of Salford (in the UK), giving students choice and flexibility within their classrooms lead to a 28% increase in student engagement and achievement. I would like to bring some of that choice and flexibility here, to my classroom at KMS. Our flexibility will not just be in seating, but in the way our classroom runs. I believe that student choice leads to student independence and ownership over learning.
