When a medically fragile homebound student is blind, visually impaired, or disabled, they can relate to books better when these books are big and accompanied by props such as puppets or soft stuffed characters, riddles, sequencing cards, and cross-curricular activities. If students use their senses to relate to a story the story becomes more magical and alive. Tactile storytelling helps develop sequencing, memory, focus attention, creativity, imagination, and visualization. Through this process, a teacher is instilling curiosity. The storytelling kits that I have requested allow a student to have a multi-sensory experience by bringing the books alive.
