Poverty, unemployment, single parents, these are all issues being faced by students in my third grade class. My third graders are responsible, respectful, and safe students who are coming to school and giving it their all everyday. Even with their determination, maintaining focus can be a difficult challenge. Nearly 50% of my students have been diagnosed or show strong ADD or ADHD behaviors. We have recently experienced the generosity of a kind donor who purchased a burst resistant body ball as a chair replacement for our class. Since implementing the balls, the improvement in my students has me in awe. Not only are we are having better, more in-depth conversations, but behavior problems have greatly diminished as well.
