Now in its 5th year, Nea Community Learning Center (Nea) is a comprehensive K-12 public Charter school located in Alameda, California, where the students are referred to as learners, and the teachers, facilitators. Though Nea’s charting agency is the Alameda Unified School District, Nea is an independent charter, acting as its own district as well as a Local Education Agency (LEA). Currently, Nea serves 513 learners across grades K-12, growing from 265 in grade K-9 its inaugural year in 2009. The K-5 program is housed in a separate campus called the Lower Village, and the 6-12 campus is called the Upper Village. Nea learners are diverse, reflecting greater numbers of certain populations than the city of Alameda general population and school aged population where Nea is located.
