My program is an energetic, goal-oriented class designed to maximize the abilities and possibilities of students with autism and other challenges. Our setting is a self-contained class in an urban, high-poverty, high-need high school in New England. The students are chronologically 17-21 years old, with developmental and academic ages of 3-12. As teenagers, they need to be learning skills and tasks that will allow them to be successful after graduation, including both activities of daily living (cooking, cleaning, laundry) and vocational skills. As students with limited cognition and/or abilities, they need extended training and guidance to accomplish and master these skills. They require real-life experience and modeling to learn what you and I can master after being shown only a few times. This is what our curriculum and daily activities provides, with your support.
