I love when my students get so wrapped up in what we are reading, that they beg me to read just "one more chapter." I begin each year with an easy read to get my students excited about chapter books. We start with Chocolate Fever, and they love it! They make so many connections and have a hard time putting it down. We end the year by reading Charlotte's Web. By this time, they are much better readers and can make connections, predictions, compare and contrast characters, and even provide alternate endings. Having a class set of the books we read will increase their investment and interest in our units. They will be able to follow along and look at the pictures, which will in return help their reading and language skills. They will love to be able to follow along or even look back when it comes time to respond to the reading.
