There is a giant poster in my classroom that reads: Words create books; Books fuel knowledge; Knowledge begets power; Power equals Freedom. Reading provides students with insight into a world beyond their own and fuels their passion for adventure and self-exploration. Unfortunately, many of my students currently view reading as a burdensome and unenjoyable task because the reading materials they have access to are often outdated and out of touch with their reality. My students need books that reflect their identities, interests and learning abilities. By funding our classroom library, you are opening doors that will help to transform my students into the legendary leaders they are aiming to be.
