For this project, I am requesting a set of skull casts. These casts include a human skull, gorilla skull, and many hominid ancestors, which can be used to teach human evolution and the theory of evolution. So many of my students learn best when they can literally put their hands on the things they are studying- what better way to learn about the world around you than by engaging in it? I am starting this project because one topic where we are lacking in hands-on equipment is in our study in evolution, and having these sorts of hands-on supplies will give learners with many different needs an opportunity to access this amazing biology concept. I hope to use these tools in teaching evolution, by having students complete lab investigations that help them compare and contrast modern day humans and their ancient ancestors. This will allow them to see the theory of evolution through the study of fossil-like skulls that directly relate to their own evolutionary ancestry.
