My students arrive to my classroom, Room 118 from diverse backgrounds, and bring rich cultural experiences that are shared. We become an amazing, cohesive group where tolerance and empathy are the cornerstones for us. We begin lessons at 8:20, while students eat breakfast. They quickly learn to prioritize and organize, since social studies and science are held while the students are eating. Believe me: it's a challenge they master. Then, it's on to group time on the carpet, where we complete intervention periods in math and/ or language arts. Center time is often a period where the students get to use crayons, markers, glue and scissors to complete small group or individual assignments. Our days are very demanding, and my general education and my ESL students create an environment that becomes filled with high achievement.
