The project is designed to produce a Tubric tool from which students will be able to generate their own practice writing prompts. Use of the Tubric is a project-based learning activity from the Buck Institute for Education (BIE, 2010; https://www.bie.org/object/video/the_birth_of_the_tubric). The resources requested will assist with building the tool. The inner workings of the tool are going to be printed on paper, but attached to the tool with the adhesives requested. The spray paints will cover the outside of the tool; hopefully, with a color that matches our school emblem.
Our students have been struggling with remembering the best way to match writing prompts with the correct writing style so I chose to build a hands-on tool that will assist with instruction and show students how to structure their personal writing assignments. Our staff encourages students to practice writing on their own, but this may be just the motivational tool they need. With the interchangeability of the tool, students will be able to increase their knowledge of the different writing styles (persuasive, narrative, expository, and opinion), as well as learning the steps to creating a cohesive essay.
The groundwork for the tool assembly has already been done with items purchased from a retailer not available on this website. The work and materials chosen were not that expensive and are being donated by myself along with other school staff. To make the project better we are including a way to have more than one focus and more than one tool. That is going to require purchasing some other items.
I believe the availability of this tool will give our students the skills they need to master writing-on-demand for any of the various aspects of their lives.
