My students are low-income students in CA. They are students in a former turnaround school and are so eager to achieve. While my students face monetary and violent hardships, they are serious about making a positive multi-generational change in life. My students are driven to gain points on their ACT, learn critical thinking skills, and get to college so they have the chance to return to their community to make it better for their siblings and the future. I am so excited to work with these bright young minds in a hands-on chemistry classroom, but we need supplies to work with during our lab exercises. My students live in areas around the city that are riddled with gang violence and many live in single parent homes. Despite all of their hardships, they come to school every day ready to work. More than that, they believe in creating social capital to change the world.
