My students live in Gary, IN, a city that has faced many challenges which have caused a lack of resources. Many schools have closed down, and our school is a shining light in the community. My students are brilliant and amazing learners. They are unique and come to school every day ready to learn. They are creative and outgoing and future leaders. I want our classroom to feel like home for my students. I want them to truly feel like they belong and they can be themselves, despite the trauma they may have going on at home. I have a reading corner to encourage reading and I want more positive posters around the classroom to ensure that my students are not negative throughout the day. Our classroom's theme is Emory University to make sure my students are college focused. These children are the future and the zip code should not determine the resources they have. Please help create a home for my students at school!
