Fluorescent lighting is harsh and causes headaches and eyestrain, a big complaint of my students. Softer lighting reduces the glare from the overhead lights, resulting in fewer headaches and migraines. Softer lighting in classrooms has also been proven to help create calmer students who are able to focus more. My students need an improved learning environment to help them succeed. My students need more calm in their hectic lives. They need a more supportive environment in which they can explore, create, and learn. This will be extremely beneficial for my students with special needs, including autism, ADHD, and sensory processing disorders.
