In kindergarten, we love reading and listening to stories. This year, our school is using a new writing program that has several incredible mentor text to help students in their writing journey. Narratives, opinion, expository, and how-to, our kindergartners will be learning it all! These books will not only continue to enhance the text rich environment that I strive to create in my classroom, but will also be examples of several types of writing. Writing can be a challenging task for some students. When I have included a mentor text into my writing lessons, I have seen more engagement as well as increased retention of the writing lesson. Every year I have watch how students grow a love for reading, I cannot wait to see how these mentor text will not only continue that love but also begin a new love for writing and story telling.
