I teach two groups of 6th grade English Language Arts. One group of my students consists of English Language Learners, many who have just arrived to this country. Other students in this class are several years below grade level and are struggling. My second group of students is a bit higher performing, although most are at least one to two years below grade level in reading and writing. We have English twice a day to help them catch up as well as an extended day program. Our Title I school is located in a high need, socioeconomically disadvantaged neighborhood in the North Bronx. This does not stop us from successfully shaping our future leaders. In our first year post-merging two schools, we have embraced the achievements and resources from both schools to leverage the greatest academic gains for our students. Our "Renewal" status encourages our resilience and perseverance daily.
