It is known that having a class pet teaches students responsibility, but it can also be a health hazard, heartbreaking, and time consuming experience. Students also have to share the responsibility of taking care of the animal(s). However, desk pets solves those dilemmas! I plan to use desk pets as a class incentive to teach responsibility inside and outside of the classroom. Each student will earn Pet Store Money by showing they are RRPPed (Responsible, Respectful, Perseverant, and have a Positive Attitude). With their monies they will first create a nurturing home by purchasing a house (plastic container) and pet food (mini food erasers). They will then be able to adopt a pet (mini animal erasers) to take care of. Throughout the school year they can buy accessories for their pet and even adopt more pets. Desk pets will help motivate students while teaching responsibility.
