For years now we have focused on a reading program that is mainly non-fiction. Students have really developed their ability to read academic texts which will support them in higher education. The problem, however, is now the lack of fictional stories in their lives. Every book on my list is my attempt to reach a child. Diversifying my library and making sure students see themselves represented in stories is my goal. There's nothing better than the feel of a book in your hand, and when you're reading something that feels connected to you, your imagination and dreams grow.
