If students love to read, then they begin to love learning. Students will use these specific books during ACRMA8's DEAR program (Drop Everything And Read!). The students choose a book within their reading range, and upon finishing the book, they take an "Accelerated Reader" test to check what they learned. A passing score on the test results in points and movement towards their personalized reading goals. At the end of the year, we have an AR banquet, where students who met their reading goals are recognized and celebrated amongst their peers, family, and community. Nothing is more rewarding than witnessing students enchanted by a book in their hands. As Frederick Douglas said,"Once you learn to read, you will be forever free." As Ms. Lupin says, "Once you love to read, you can free others."
